Dallas Breast Augmentation
There are many decisions to be made when choosing breast augmentation: where to place the incision, implant placement, and breast implant type and size. Dr. Michael Bogdan is a highly skilled plastic surgeon who specializes in breast augmentation and will take the time to walk you through each step.
Dr. Bogdan strives to minimize scarring, and will discuss with you which incision is right for you:
- Inframammary approach: This is the most common approach at Dr. Bogdan's practice. A small incision is made where the breast meets the chest wall and is well-concealed in the fold beneath the breast. This method allows for optimal implant placement.
- Endoscopic approach: This approach utilizes a small incision in the armpit. This is a newer technique and the implant is placed with the use of an endoscope.
- Periareolar incision: A tiny incision is made within the bottom half of the dark circle of skin surrounding the nipple. This approach allows access to the interior chest wall, and normally leaves little noticeable scarring.
After choosing the incision site, you and Dr. Bogdan will select the best placement for your implants. They can be placed beneath the pectoral muscle (submuscular) or over the pectoral muscle (subglandular):
- Submuscular method: This is the most common method employed by Dr. Bogdan. It tends to produce the most natural looking results. It also decreases the risk of capsular contracture. This method may have a longer recovery time with slightly more discomfort.
- Subglandular method: This method places the implant behind the breast tissue, but above the pectoral muscle. This method has a shorter, more comfortable recovery, but may interfere with mammograms more than the submuscular method. Because there is less tissue over the implant, the implants are more visible and may look less natural.
